Symptoms Of Kids Cold Sores

Kids who get infected with HSV-1 may get cold sores occasionally for the rest of their lives. That's because even after the sores themselves dry up and go away, the virus stays in the body, waiting around for another time to come out and cause more sores. It travels back down the nerve to lay dormant deep inside the body. When it is re-activated at times of stress, it travels along the same nerve right back to the same spot it infected previously.

  • For kids who get cold sores over and over again, they will often feel some pain, burning, or itching at the site of the cold sore before it appears..

  • A group of vesicles (small, fluid filled blisters) appearing on a red area of skin

  • These blisters can be quite painful and are associated with a low-grade fever.

  • The virus also leads to a fever, muscle aches, eating difficulties, a generally ill feeling, irritability, and swollen neck glands. These symptoms can last up to 2 weeks.

  • Cold sores can affect anyone who has had a prior herpes infection . They are most likely to occur during times of change or stress, including sunburns, fatigue, illnesses, allergies, fevers, temperature changes, or along with the menstrual cycle.

  • The children have difficulty swallowing their saliva because of the pain it causes. They may have a poor appetite, and the glands around the neck may swell slight.

  • In some cases, the gums become red and swollen.
